City of Burlingame

US Filter: US Filter established a unique relationship with the City of Burlingame, being the first public-private partnership ever established in the U.S. in 1972. Despite several corporate changes, the company has continued to provide the City constant, unswerving service with our wastewater treatment program.

But above and beyond their contractual obligations, US Filter is a great corporate citizen. Witness its principal sponsorship of the annual Bayfront cleanup and its participation in science demos and training at Burlingame High School. In addition, US Filter contributed significantly to the renovation of Burlingame’s pre-school facility at Village Park and has fully sponsored the Music in the Park July concert series for the past two years.

During these difficult economic times, these contributions are essential to continuing these very popular programs. Thank you to US Filter for their never ending involvement and commitment to the Burlingame community.

Daly City

Max Wain, Executive Director – Growing Planet: Max started Growing Planet to honor a childhood dream he shares with his family from Pakistan. Max and his father share a passion for the environment that Max has transformed into reality serving the youth of the San Francisco Bay Area. After retiring from a successful career in the financial arena, Max filed for non-profit status for Growing Planet to Legitimize and solidify the dream. After the initial bumps and bruises of start up, Max and Growing Planet have provided monthly environmental training sessions for the City of Daly City and the State of California’s Department of Parks and Recreation. Growing Planet developed a summer Kids Kamp program for Daly City and attracted a huge following of ECO-RANGERS. Non-Native plant eradication programs have attracted corporate support. Over one hundred volunteers showed up for Thornton Beach Clean Up Days and 25 volunteers coupled with the Bay Area Ridge Trails for a trail development project which will circle the entire SF bay when completed. Projects on the horizon will further educate the kids of our area and excite future Eco-Rangers to treat an ever-changing world with a vision of the environmental impact each of us has on our surroundings. Thanks Max, Congratulations!

San Carlos

San Carlos Tennis Club: The San Carlos Tennis Club awarded the City of San Carlos cash grants that have enabled the City to match these funds and resurface the tennis courts at Highlands Park. This project would not have been done in this economic climate without the partnership of the San Carlos Tennis Club. The tennis courts would have continued to decline and would have led to a more costly repair for the community to bear in the future without this funding support. The San Carlos Tennis Club has a long history of strong partnership with the community and with the Park and Recreation Department in the City of San Carlos. They have helped defray maintenance costs at additional tennis court sites in the past and have offered their help on future upcoming projects. Thank you!

San Mateo

Bill Patchett - TreeScape: The City of San Mateo would like to thank TreeScape, its owner Bill Patchett, and his hardworking staff for the pruning of the historic bay tree located within Bay Tree Park. This tree, for which the park is named after, is approximately 150 years old and stands approximately 85 feet tall with a 120 foot spread. Bill and his crews spent two days in early December thinning out the tree and making it safe for the upcoming winter weather. The value of the service is approximately $3000.

Baywood Owners Improvement Association: The Baywood Homeowners Association led by President John Smorjai, rallied neighborhood volunteers to assist the City of San Mateo in the completion of the landscape renovation of Bay Tree Park. As a result more than 35 volunteers planted more than 150 flowering shrubs on the morning of August 9, 2003 in this small passive pocket park that they love. This effort had an immediate and dramatic positive visual impact on the park’s curb appeal for neighbors to enjoy for a long time.
